Gravy was founded in 2003 as PenguinSTAFF by Alex Atwood, who at 23 was already a staffing industry veteran having built staffing companies for the IT and Engineering industries. This new company was built to serve the hospitality industry, giving us our distinctive name right from the start. With integrity, commitment, and hard work, PenguinSTAFF soon became a leader in the hospitality staffing industry.
Seeing how smart phones and technology could impact the major shortage of labor in the hospitality industry, Gravy was founded in 2018. We are now solving staffing issues for businesses and consumers while giving hospitality professionals the ability to earn money and gain experience.
Growing up in a family of entrepreneurs Alex has lived and breathed the staffing industry since birth. He’s also worked as a bartender, waiter, cook, and dishwasher and for multiple catering companies… he has staffing and hospitality in his blood!
He’s the conductor of this Gravy Train; helping to streamline and modernize the way employers and job seekers connect. Alex is also an actor who has appeared on major network and cable television.
I’m a software engineer specializing in React.js. When I’m not writing code, I can be found fishing, wakeboarding, skiing, hiking or anything outdoors. I’m also a hardcore fantasy football manager, still looking for my first championship season.
Born in the heart of South America, Camila entered into the space of the Municipal Ballet in her hometown at the age of 3, performing on stages throughout her whole country and gaining cultural appreciation like no other. She is a Bolivian who is driven by her ambitious goals and is set to tackle any obstacle in her way. Close to the finish line on pursuing her Associates Degree in Communications, Camila aspires to major in Media Broadcasting. In the near future, she hopes to earn a job as a news reporter for Univison. Her bilingual skills have influenced her love for cooking and learning new things as well. When Camila is not interviewing Gravy Pro’s, she is performing or working on inner engineering.
Eric Ashman is a Cloud Native, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), DevOps technology executive, with skills in product architecture, software design, and secure, highly scalable implementations.
With deep experience in both startups and established companies, he has hands-on expertise in app development, cloud-based infrastructure, security solutions, and SAAS implementations, with a background in systems administration, telecom and audio/video engineering.

Growing up, Jeff always wanted to be a professional soccer player. After 15 years of trying and obtaining a degree from Radford University, Jeff decided to change his focus to sales. His genuine concern for assisting others has helped him form many strong relationship with Gravy’s clients. When Jeff is not working you can usually find him on his computer, or out looking for new restaurants to try.
With experience in Human resources and a great sense of responsibility as well as a high vocation of service, capable of generating added value to the organization through the creation, implementation of new ideas and own initiative to solve problems.

Joclynn’s need for speed and heights has allowed her to skydive, zipline, bungee jump and next swimming with sharks! Joclynn’s hope is to get the new Pro’s at Gravy to embrace change and prepare for the thrills that every shift will offer them.
In a world full of options and features Enzo strives for clean and minimal design. He loves looking for new ways to balance form and function, especially when it leads to creative solutions. When he’s not in the office, you can find him working on his latest and greatest video game or behind the chair at cutting hair.
As the Activation Manager Nanci focuses on recruiting, staffing, scheduling and support for Gravy’s clients and professionals. With Experience in hospitality and HR she enjoys working for companies whose purpose is to help and offer new opportunities to their people. In her time off she loves to spend time with her siblings and her many nieces and nephew while always communicating and sharing experiences with her family in El Salvador in hopes to one day have them do the same or more.
At a young age I was drawn to the restaurant business. Working in kitchens across the Philadelphia area instilled a passion for hospitality before attending Syracuse University to pursue a degree in Foodservice Management. After college, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to work for companies such as Marriott, Whyndam, Ian Schrager Hotels to help develop and design facilities all over the country. For the past 15 years, I operated my own restaurants in Washington DC and now it is time to share what I have learned over the past 25 years with you.
