The Gravy Work team and 2,000 other volunteers braved the heat and came together to take on the Meal Pack Challenge yesterday. The goal? Pack 1 million meals for hungry seniors!
Shockingly, 1 in 7 seniors live in poverty. Moreover, 13.2 million full-time working adults are classified as low-income. Senior poverty is a real problem in DC and the US.
As part of its 1% Pledge, the Gravy Work team volunteered to pack meals for the day (and had fun doing it). Packing meals is a practical way to help hungry seniors and bring the community together at the same time.
PS – Wondering what’s in the meal packs we made? No PB and J sandwiches here. Instead, we made easy to cook Red Lentil Jambalaya kits. Just four simple ingredients: red lentils, rice, dehydrated vegetables and pink Himalayan salt. Makes for a tasty vegan, gluten-free meal that is naturally packed with protein and fiber.
